Mike Hussey tests negative to virus as cricketers get green light for vaccination

Australian cricket legend Mike Hussey has thanked the Chennai Super Kings for taking care of him during his battle with the virus and needs one more negative test to be free of quarantine.

Hussey tested negative to Covid-19 the day after being flown by air ambulance from Delhi and Chennai for increased care.

The Chennai Super Kings batting coach is still suffering flu-like symptoms but another negative test in the coming days will see Hussey leave isolation ahead of the mandatory 10 days.

“I’m resting well and I’m feeling stronger,” Hussey said in a statement late on Friday afternoon.

“I’m hugely appreciative of what CSK have already done and are doing for me.

“It’s horrific what’s taking place in India at the moment with the pandemic and I’ve been blessed with the great support I have received.

“I’m grateful for all the messages of support from cricket fans in India and Australia.”

Another negative test and Hussey will be able to join the Australian contingent of players, commentators and support staff in the Maldives.

Hussey sat next to another coach on the team bus who subsequently tested positive, becoming the only Australian during the IPL to catch the virus. All-rounder Daniel Sams caught the virus on the way to India and was forced to isolate for two weeks on arrival.

Federal Cabinet agreed Friday that national cricketers will follow the country’s Olympians with vaccinations.

A vaccination program specifically for Australia’s Olympic athletes begins on Monday ahead of the July Olympics in Tokyo.

Australia’s next tour is scheduled for the West Indies from late June, with vaccinated travellers required to do little or no quarantine.
