Hanuma Vihari drops Marnus Labuschagne in SCG Test

Marnus Labuschagne again piled up the runs en route to 73 on day four of the third Test – but Australia’s No.3 was dropped on the second ball of the morning and India were not happy.

The prolific right-hander clipped a shot to Hanuma Vihari at short backward square leg when he was on 47 and the Indian fielder made an absolute meal of a simple chance.

The ball struck Vihari near the wrists, completely misjudged, and it went to ground.

“It wasn’t a hard chance … this is as simple as it gets,” Australian great Shane Warne said on Fox Cricket.

“That’s an absolute soda. You’ve got to catch those at this level, especially at this situation of the game. Bumrah cannot believe it.

“That is deflating for your whole team.”

Fellow Australian great Michael Hussey slammed India’s reaction, with only Bumrah offering solace to Vihari, who has also struggled with the bat this series.

“I was a little bit disappointed with, he did drop that catch and at the end of the over, none of the Indian fielders went over to him, gave him a pat on the back and said, ‘Catch the next one, mate’,” Hussey said.

“He must have been feeling terrible himself, it’s one of the worst feelings in the game, to drop a catch.”
